Weed has been legalised in New York City, here’s what you need to know

Effective today weed is no longer illegal in New York City. Here’s what you need to know as prescribed by the New York State legislature as of 3/31. This also applies to the rest of New York though villages and such will have to figure out exactly how they want to take part.

  1. Weed is now legal in the state though it will take some time before stores pop up selling legal weed.
  2. Adults can now smoke weed wherever tobacco use is prohibited (but thus regardless of such please remember to be kind to others around you who may not smoke weed. There is a stark difference between cigarettes (thus gross) and the smell of cigarettes.)
  3. Records of those and the convictions that go with them who were jailed for possession in the state will be thrown out and resentenced.
  4. Adults can now possess up to 3 ounces of weed outside of their homes and up to 5 lbs at home.

“This is a historic day in New York — one that rights the wrongs of the past by putting an end to harsh prison sentences, embraces an industry that will grow the Empire State’s economy, and prioritizes marginalized communities so those that have suffered the most will be the first to reap the benefits,” Cuomo said in a statement per the New York Post.
