Facebook is now poised to lift the news ban in Australia

Following a bizarre showdown between Facebook and the Australian government it looks like Facebookers in AU will now once again be able to access Facebook entirely. Earlier this month, Facebook Australia abruptly banned users from sharing news and article pieces over reports that they’d have to pay publishers for people to be able to do that.

Facebook has now reportedly caved and negotiated terms of such agreements with the government which will now trigger proper negotiations with publishers. The social networking giant is expected to begin negotiating deals with publishers directly through Facebook News similar to the way Google has already done with News Showcase.

Canada is set to begin their own legislation of such in the coming weeks as more countries come to terms with the idea that sites like Facebook should pay people for the content it uses.
