Joe Biden campaigned that he and Kamala Harris want to dramatically reshape law enforcement in America. Now for allot of people that either comes somewhere between a surprise or a bunch of bullshit considering Kamala ‘s past and Joe ‘s own past. Lots of Black Americans particularly take issue with the fact that Kamala was at one point a former prosecutor and Joe himself once supported the 1993 crime bill. A crime bill that arguably set the fabric for what would become of the monstrous crime against humanity that would be known as policing in America.
Let’s outline what Biden plans to do according to his Press Sec and formal executive orders issued as of this writing.
- Joe Biden has instructed government agencies-wide to put racial equity and fairness at the forefront of their daily duties.
Through an executive order, Joe Biden has ordered all government agencies and their heads to make it their mission to address inequality in the workplace. Through this action agencies are now required to: address racial inequality, injustices, unfairness, and so on.
But again it comes at a cost. Biden is stuck somewhere between trying not to trigger alt-right extremists into a craze again and appeasing the progressives that catapulted him to office. He’s stuck somewhere between his own anti-Black past and that of his colleagues and trying to acknowledge the very existence of the people (looking at you here Georgia) that helped him win the election.
2. Biden is expected to announce dramatic police reforms that would also see the use of military equipment going to police agencies halted.
It is unclear how exactly he intends to tackle this in full but what is clear is that Biden has a mighty ambitious plan.
As more execution actions and policies become available, we’ll update this page here as America seeks a new page. Changes amongst the discussion about race in policing couldn’t be anymore welcome in the United States.
