T.V Review: We watched #HouseofHo, here’s how we rate HBO Max ‘s new reality series

Last updated on 2020-12-15

TITLE: House of Ho

Network: HBO MAX

Love it or Not: See below.

Status: Available now

House of Ho (the title alone was rather amusing when I had no idea what it was but the recommendation popped up on HBO MAX.) Surprisingly enough, I actually did think this was some offensive comedy written by some out of touch comedian that targeted Asian people. To my surprise, er, it in fact is nothing of the sort but instead an endearing reality series chronicling the lives of the Ho Family.

The Ho ‘s are a wealthy Vietanmeese-American family living the high life in Houston Texas. And by living big, I mean big in mansions; fancy cars, and most things you’d expect from a family with this kind of money. One thing I immediately liked about the first episode of House of Ho is in fact that it doesn’t feel forced or uppity.

For those wondering, according to reports, the Ho ‘s built their wealth via real estate development and investments. They are believed to be worth upwards of $200m.

Usually these types of reality shows no matter the folks that said show is about — the show usually ends up being obnoxious because they have abnormal amounts of money and constantly show it off. House of Ho does the opposite and despite having insane amounts of money couldn’t be anymore endearingly relatable.

LOVE IT: I definitely recommend this for a watch if you were say one of those that watched the original wave of reality television shows. Perhaps what makes this show different is that it was not produced by the usual reality T.V networks who tend to gin up bizarre storylines that don’t seem real at all.

HIGH POINTS: I for some reason have a weird adoration for the boujeee sister Aunt Tina and Judy. Both are what I imagine my spirit animal to be when I’m a cool 30-40 years old. Wealthy; living life as I want too, and generally not giving a shit about one says about you. Tina ‘s raven haired locks were a standout of the two.

LOW POINTS: The men aren’t typically that entertaining. This is a show that absolutely needed the spice of Mama Ho and her daughters.

Overall rating: 3 1/2 stars

DETERMINATION: Stream it. over a good plate of food and the heat on because it is freaking cold outside.
