New Yorker suspends Danny Shanahan amid child porn charges

Troubling news for the New Yorker today as it has been revealed that one of its famed cartoonists has been jailed on child porn charges. According to state police in the NY village of Rhinebeck, Danny Shanahan, 64, was arrested this week after a search warrant was conducted at his home. The search warrant reportedly turned up a series of innapropriate materials depicting children in sexual acts.

According to what we’ve been able to find out about Shanahan per his biography and such — he has been with the New Yorker for more than 30 years. Police confirmed that he has since been released from jail, although, now has to appear in court in Rhinebeck on 20 January to face the charges against him.

UPDATED: At approximately 12:54pm, the New Yorker issued this statement to The Daily News by way of a spokesperson.

“The accusations against Danny Shanahan are deeply disturbing. We have suspended his freelance contract while the Dutchess County District Attorney’s office proceeds with its investigation.” reads the statement in full.
