China can’t seem to catch a break no matter how one may feel about the country. According to reports — a bizarre case of the bubonic plague has been confirmed in the country. On Monday, state-run news agencies bizarrely confirmed that a herder from Mongolia tested positive for the deadly plague and is being treated at an unidentified hospital.

According to media reports, the infection was found within the city limits of Bayannur.

“At present, there is a risk of a human plague epidemic spreading in this city,” said the local health authority, per CNN. “The public should improve its self-protection awareness and ability, and report abnormal health conditions promptly.”
