Unemployment in America does not appear to be going away as fast as some politicians would actually like. According to reports, House Democrats are now attempting to put together plans for a desired federal jobs programme to prevent any further declines.

A federal jobs programme would drastically alter the employment landscape in America. With such a programme things like: wages, childcare, and most things in between would be federally subsidised for a period of time. If things were to suddenly continue to worsen — it would obviously become a more indefinite thing for a longer period of time.

Editorial note

Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon (who played a monumental part in getting expanded unemployment pushed to the masses) is now leading the push for a far-more-dramatic alteration to the current American employment environment. Wyden as of Tuesday has proposed that a new programme under the already present Social Security Act be created. However — the likelihood of Republicans being any type of interested in such is rather slim.

Before we begin, it is important to note that as of mid-June at least 44m+ Americans have filed for unemployment benefits.

The latest unemployment numbers come as many states are actively loosening their own COVID-19 related restrictions. As a result of those movements, however, spikes of the virus once again are popping up nationwide across America.

“The economy is in a ditch because (President) Donald Trump gave up on fighting the virus, and it will take years to recover,” Wyden said in a statement about his proposal per the Huffington Post. “Importantly, our bill ensures federal support is guaranteed over the long-term by tying it to economic conditions on the ground. More than 20 million Americans are unemployed, and without a bold federal response, there will be prolonged economic misery for the millions of workers who won’t be able to go back to their old jobs.”

The legislation proposal is sponsored by: Democratic Sens. Tammy Baldwin (Wis.), Chris Van Hollen (Md.), Michael Bennet (Colo.), and Cory Booker (N.J.).
