Amid yet another police shooting in Atlanta, the city’s police chief has abruptly resigned

Amid the release of numerous videos — a 27-year-old black man in Atlanta is dead this weekend aftrt yet another police-charged shooting in America. While it was initially thought that Rayshard Brooks may have did something wrong, in fact, it appears that he may have been asleep in his car minding his business sans the fact he was in a Wendy ‘s parking lot.

Protestors gather outside the Wendy’s fast food restaurant in Atlanta on Saturday, June 13, 2020, where Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old black man, was shot and killed by Atlanta police Friday evening during a struggle in a drive-thru line.   (Steve Schaefer/Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP)

GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigations) has launched an investigation into the shooting, which by all means appears to have been an unjust use of deadly force. While there was indeed a tussle between Brooks and the police, the incident is yet another shining example of how quick police are to pull the trigger on African Americans.

Meanwhile, the city ‘s police chief Erika Shields has abruptly stepped aside in the midst of growing protests and civil unrest. Atlanta was among the hardest hit in the initial protests and this particular shooting only adds a thorn in an already contentious battle between the city its police department and its citizens.
