They told *all* of their residents to download a contact tracing app or else

The city of Noida in India is one interesting city to say the least, but its police department might just be an entirely different story. As countries around the world continue to fight and protect their neighbourhoods from the Coronavirus, some are going to some pretty drastic measures to track and maintain records of those who may have come into contact with the virus.

A media report in Indian media confirmed suspicions of the claims out of Noida, which bizarrely featured a police order originally written in Hindu. The Daily News was able to make out of part of the order and learned that fines would be handed out up to about 1,000 rupees (or $13) or possibly 6 months or more in jail.

As of last month, according to state reports, more than 90 million people have reportedly downloaded the now mandated app. Strangely, the Noida police department isn’t responding to requests for comment even for attempts to garner clarification on the controversial order.

Critics in the country are widely panning the app as a thinly veiled threat to people’s right to privacy.
