Smithfield Foods has shuttered its fifth plant: Report

New reports out Tuesday morning paint a grim picture for the future of American food suppliers. According to Dailymail.com, Smithfield Foods has shuttered its Crete Nebraska location amid rising fears of the Coronavirus and numerous employee complaints. In recent weeks, the company has seen more than a dozen complaints at the food plant amid claims that a the company didn’t do enough to protect its employees.

The food supplier has also closed facilities in Monmouth, Illinois.

Smithfield closed its St. Charles facility in Illinois, and in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The report comes amid claims that the company plans to euthanise a number of pigs used by Smithfield Foods in an effort to “depopulate.” A lawsuit filed on Thursday revealed that corporate executives are accused of refusing to provide adequate PPE and even refusing to allow employees time to wash their hands.
