Florida is now one of the only places in America that still hasn’t stopped church services from going forth. There are members of my community that have already gotten the virus, at least two of them who are fighting for their lives in the ICU. We want them to close down churches, church service can be hosted over the internet. Lives now depend on it.
The Coronavirus has upended our lives in ways that even the most religious didn’t see coming. Mile-long lines at the grocery store; some running for the pantry, others desperately gunning for any charitable organization that may have something left. These are times that we as Floridians didn’t see coming and desperately need to reevaluate our now selfish desire to keep going about our lives.
Both my Mom and my Dad are desperately religious. They thrive; breathe, and practically eat religion. Both refuse to acknowledge the reality that we live in, a reality that myself and my brother are desperately trying to get them to understand. To understand, that as two high risk elderly people. their lives could be gone in a mere instant with one wrong step.
This is the terrifying reality that we the four kids now have to live with. East Services are set to be some of the biggest likely in years, considering people are desperately clamouring for something more. I’ve spent the better half of the past week explaining to me 68-year-old Mom that she can’t just walk into church services, but there is nothing that seems to signal compromise.
They argue mercilessly that their rights would be infringed if church services were to stop. But they’re not. These are people that don’t understand that technology and the internet has made it where things like church in situations like a pandemic — can be moved online.
My Dad is even worse. A fringe Trump supporter, he argues that the cancelling of church services is in fact not related to the alleged virus but instead is a deep state plot by the Democrats to overrule civil liberties in America.
They can’t shut down church. The deep state can’t win. It’s just another roll on their book to overthrow our great government. It’s a plot against Trump.

It was today that I decided to take matters into my own hands and essentially restrict them all together from even going to the store. Myself and my sister are now doing all of their grocery shopping; any outings they may require, and everything in between. We are ensuring at all costs that they will live through this.
Members of my community for the sake of the elderly and high risk are now threatening to revolt against my pastor. As much as I hate the idea, I think the only way to get these people to listen is to threaten their very existence and livelihood.
