Lawmakers demand Cuomo shut down the NYC subway for one week: Letter

If four council members get their way — the MTA could soon temporarily be shuttered entirely amid the Coronavirus pandemic. According to the New York Post, Gov Cuomo is being pressured to shutter the subway system all together because some feel the MTA is helping drastically fuel the virus.

“We believe that drastic measures must be taken to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our transit system,” the lawmakers — Robert Holden, Eric Ulrich, Mark Gonaj and Peter Koo — say in a letter to Cuomo.

The lawmakers cite the gross inadequacy of protective gear given to MTA workers.

”MTA employees are going to work every day with woefully inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE). They are given one mask and one pair of gloves for an entire week while continuing to work among the filth of the subway,” the letter says,
