New details have emerged about the lethal coronavirus emerging out of China. According to numerous reports and scientists, news of an apparent lab where viruses could escape first emerged in 2017 amid reports that China was studying things like Ebola in Wuhan.
A scientist and researcher named Tim Tevan told Nature Magazine that year that it was of hot-concern that the 1st of facilities of its kind could become a death trap in the future. Why? China’s anti-freedom-of-speech approach to government control would’ve and has largely prevented people from speaking up about government originated mistakes.
Here’s what we know so far:
The facility in Wuhan was first built around 2016 and opened in 2017. It is one of 5 facilities in China that apparently study and openly inject animals with some of the most lethal pathogens known to mankind. Around the time that concerns originally rose about the facility, researchers began speaking up about the idea that viruses could escape the facility by way of animals or their meat and end up in mainland China.
Scientists remain firm on the belief that the virus mutated at the now-closed seafood market in Wuhan. That market has been identified as the Huanan Seafood Market about 20 miles from the facility in question. It is widely believed at this point that the virus mutated through contaminated seafood and meat which led to the obvious consumption of such and transference of said virus through human-animal contact.
