Deep Dive: How Russia’s crackdown on opposition actually works

Vladamir Putin — one of the world’s most repressive leaders has been the leader of Russia for about as long as this newspaper has been alive. Throughout hellbent; illegal, and forced/botched elections — Putin has maintained his grip on modern Russia longer than any other Soviet leader in history.

With the help of Russian insiders via the dark web, I’ve managed to obtain insider information as to how Russia cracks down on opposition leaders; stifles anyone whom is anti-Putin, and uses religious freedoms to stifle the most basic and common of human rights.

Vladamir Putin and his administration have long held the thought that if you’re Russian.. you’re automatically pro-Putin or else. Like most countries in the world right now, people are finally starting to wake up to the idea that we’ve been brainwashed into thinking our leaders actually work for us rather than the other way around [translated from Russian].

Russia ‘s longest-standing critics have long learned that there are steep consequences for turning against the Kremlin. According to translated documents obtained by The Daily News, opposition leaders and the like often face steep and heavy fines from the government in a bid to quell any further opposition from them. Some of those opposition leaders even face fines as high as $34,000USD.

The fines are part of a broader tactic used by Russia ‘s Justice Ministry to silence dissidents through the use of almost intentional bankruptcy. A former Russian government official who fled the country told me in encrypted e-mails that “NGOs; charities, and even regular ordinary people have lost everything for simply saying the truth about Putin. People within his own government are terrified of their own leader because even if for a second that they believe they can get out — there lives and everything they love are at stake.”

Fines pale in comparison to other common tactics used by the Kremlin and the Justice Ministry. People have been forced to take out mortgages on their apartments (over falsified claims of tax evasion); some have been doused in ammonia and shot by contract killers, others have been flat out kidnapped and murdered.
