Amid mental health crisis, FCC approves new 3 digit code to call suicide hotline

Groundbreaking news for Americans and their families suffering from mental health crises. According to the FCC, a new three digit phone code has been approved to be able to call directly into the U.S’s National Suicide Prevention Hotline. That code has been proposed as 988 and would be implemented if a public comment period and such goes well.

According to Axios, this could significantly lead to a reduction in suicides. Last year alone, more than 47k people died from suicide in America. Suicide is currently ranked as America ‘s 10th leading cause of death.
