Because let’s be frank Texas there’s enough evidence and reasonable doubt to gather here that Rodney Reed is an innocent man that is about to die by way of execution.
Let’s bring it back a bit so everybody understands. In 1996, Reed was convicted of the “brutal” rape and murder of a woman named Stacey Stites. The problem with the original conviction is pretty simple, there wasn’t enough direct evidence to confirm that Reed indeed was responsible for the heinous act.
But it gets even more interesting. Over the past week, hundreds of thousands of people have signed a petition demanding Texas’s Gov stay the execution and stop Reed from dying. Why?
So glad you might’ve wondered. In 2002, it emerged that another inmate told prison guards and officials that a man named Jimmy actually committed the act in question. Inmates have long told prison officials that Jimmy Fennell confessed to the murder and rape of Stites, a woman he was once upset with because she was having an affair with a black man [enter: Reed.]
