A woman told her boyfriend to “die’ — in turn she was convicted in his death

But now she’s hoping to have her involuntary manslaughter conviction overturned with a quest to the Supreme Court.   According to records, Michelle Carter was about 17-18 when she was on the phone with her then boyfriend who she had repeatedly ‘coaxed’ into believing that he should die.

Here’s what happened

On the afteroon of 13 July 2014 Conrad Roy committed suicide by way of carbon monoxide fumes in his truck. He did so after having received numerous e-mails; texts, and calls from his then long-distance girlfriend Michelle Carter.  Prosecutors initially argued and won the idea that Carter perpetuated his motivatioon to commit suicide due to her quite literal encouragement.

Eventually she would go on to be charged with involuntary manslaughter in one of the most sensational cases Massachusetts has seen in recent memory.  In February of this year, Carter was ordered to begin serving her 15 month sentence for her part.

The end result

The result? Carter was charged with involuntary manslaughter.   Her attorney Mr Marx is hoping to get a SCOTUS hearing request granted.  It is unknown at this time whether or not the case will actually make it to the Supreme Court.

. “Michelle Carter did not cause Conrad Roy’s tragic death and should not be held criminally responsible for his suicide,” attorney Daniel Marx said in a Monday statement.
