This story is in part to our bombshell investigation into Cristo Rey Newark High School and its leading official Gregory Gebbia. Yesterday, The Daily News managed to obtain and publish numerous documents lifting the veil on Gebbia ‘s own secret, some of which, has been largely kept from the public and the school ‘s donors.

The faculty member agreed to speak to us on condition and certainty of anonymity. With people already attempting to spin this story; lie on it, and downplay the allegations made by these kids — I am protecting the identity of this person.

The faculty member, which we won’t name, came forth earlier this afternoon after discovering that we added two additional student statements to our original story. In on-the-record phone calls, the faculty member admitted to the fact that the school has known this “entire time that Father Greg is not what he seems.

“There’s been this perpetual door of (“he can get away with anything”) for many years. As news broke of this story yesterday, there weren’t that many teachers honestly shocked. We are shocked that it just took this long for students to finally work up the courage to speak their truth. I commend each of these students for finally bucking this place to expose what really goes on behind these doors” the faculty member told us in a phone interview.

The Daily News subsequently learned that according to numerous students (and at least 3 different faculty members) there is, in fact, a no phone policy among kids and students.    So, when we discovered through public records that this is not the 1st complaint against Gebbia or this school, things started to make a whole lot more sense.

In fact, we took it a step further.  Administration sources say that the rules were implemented through Gregory but at the hands of the Archdiocese of Newark.

Following the claim made by Gebbia ‘s own faculty member, we did a little digging into records from the Archisdosese of Newark.

Not even a month ago it was confirmed that an entirely different lawsuit has surfaced against the Archdiocese.  This is worth noting because the Archdiocese of Newark oversees Cristo Rey Newark High School.

One of the first publicly known instances of childhood sexual abuse at the hands of the Archdiocese of Newark occurred in 2001.   In 2001, a parish minister by the name of Kevin Gugliotta was accused of sexually molesting a young boy that was a member of the youth ministry.  Gugliotta was then charged with the fact that he had been caught with dozens of collections of child-porn on his personal computer hard drive.

Public records searches for Gugliotta confirmed that he was indeed a minister at St. Bartholomew the Apostle parish in Scotch Plains.   Fast forward to 2004,  the Archidose reinstated Gugliotta at the ministry citing that “He cannot be published for things that happened (“before”) he became a priest”.  [Link to direct comment].

Gugliotta was almost immediately reinstated following that comment.   Similar situations are all but a secret.  Just months ago,  the Archdiocese of Newark settled for $400K stemming from FIVE MORE cases of sexual abuse at the hands of members of their ministry and programs.

See it: A sixth lawsuit and memorandum since about 2002 filed against the Archdiose.  This one goes into great detail of how another priest was caught abusing boys; lying about it, and eventually going on to blame victims instead of the accused.

All of these instances go on to show a great and detailed account of how the organization has ignored sexual abuse claims and criminal complaints from its vast array of businesses and organizations.   Cristo Rey Newark High School is no different. If  their own leadership doesn’t care, how on earth, can Gebbia be held accountable for his grossly abused powers.
