Sri Lanka — This is a developing story, and, likely will have further updates as time goes on. Our hearts go out to those injured in the blasts, and, to the families who lost loved ones in the attacks.
Sri Lankan authorities are investigating a series of 8 blasts that simultaneously struck Colombo and beyond today. According to authorities, hundreds of people were either flat-out killed or severely injured in the blasts. The blasts all targeted churches; 5-star hotels, and luxury brand groups.
Here’s what we know:
- Initially it was reported that just short of 200 people were injured. Sir Lankan security personnel have now confirmed that some 207 were killed and approx 405 more were injured.
- The government has confirmed that at least 11 foreigners are missing, almost a dozen others are still unaccounted for.
- Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attacks yet, although at least 13 have been
arrested per the Sri Lankan government.
