Popular resources for gay men in New York City

Being gay in New York City is already tough business (just ask a gay guy within a mile vicinity of you).  But finding services; resources, and other things to help you manage your life and health can be daunting.     While the city promotes  safe accessible services for all, sometimes, you do still encounter people who aren’t quite welcoming.  In partnership with our tabloid The Daily Fix,  we’ve rounded up 4 major resources that are delightful in helping the gay community.

  1. GMHC (Gay Mens Health Crisis).

Services are also offered to gay older people, and, even the elderly.

This one  is for people (including men; women, LGBTQ) whom are seeking someone to talk to; Prep resources, HIV/related services, and more.   Helpful staff members make ones’ experience here definitely worth-while, as,  they are extremely welcoming.    Staff members are often known to host game nights; movie days, chill days (if you’re in the youth space) and other fun stuff outside of services provided.  If you’re under a certain age, the fourth floor youth space is a great place to hang out.

Address: 308 W 38th St 4th Floor.

   2.  The Lesbian, Gay, Bi, and Transgender Community Center

This is definitely one of our favorite places to drop in and meet members of the community.  Offering a host of services (therapy; hang out spots, a cafe, Wifi, computer access, and more)  this place is generally open most of the day throughout the week. Conveniently located in Union Square, it, is literally right off the train station.

3.  The Ali Forney Center

This one a little different.   Up to the age of 25,  people struggling to find stability in their life can head on to this place for a place to sleep at night.    Warm meals; hot showers, quirky fun people to meet, the center is often a hotbed for awfully amusing moments.  To protect the privacy of the center and its clients, we, are not permitted to write anything beyond this paragraph.

Even for those not necessarily looking to sleep at the center, AFC as its often called, can often be a fun place to hang out.

Services offered: A place to sleep at night (sign up at 2pm); hot meals,  place to receive mail,  computer lab (resumes, etc), med clinic (also Prep and insurance services), case management and therapy.   Also fun creative groups literally daily.

321 W 125th St New York New York
