NEW YORK — New York City is exactly 44 days away from what very well may be one of the darkest times for residents of the busiest city in America. On March 1, NYC will lose more than $500m in funding for the following programs:
- Publicly funded housing
- Food Stamps/SNAP
- Women & Children’s Program
All of the programs named are set to be the hardest. In terms of SNAP, recipients have received their benefits almost an entire month early because this is the last payment people will see until the shutdown comes to an end. This is the first time this has ever happened in New York City.
Mayor De Blasio was on television and in press conferences on Thursday, uh, declaring pretty much that NYC will be in a dire state of emergency come March. Without funding to some of the city’s most vital programs — millions are set to lose the support and SNAP programs that their lives depend on.
We must make it clear. If you received SNAP benefits on 17 January (this applies to ALL of America) you will not receive another payment for February.
We’re hearing that food banks and third party support programs are indeed set to open up, however, food supplies may certainly be low. With that many people looking for food, it, presumably is going to look like an episode of The Purge: New York City unfolding before our very eyes.
