To The People Who Read This Paper [and our blog others],

Over the years, I, have had all kinds of people argue with me about the status of this website and more.  They’ve turned to “organic traffic websites” (for non-tech-nerds, this is what that means) — and more.  I have never engaged in any form of “marketing traffic” or “paid traffic” or anything of the kind.  (But we’ll get to that much later, because, there are numerous complaints about that).

I have only ever solely relied on the visitor/hit monitor provided by my web-host which does a pretty good job of tracking numbers here.  People have accused this paper of inflating numbers for several years, because,  they can only see what these rinky-dink websites out here can clamor to designate.

This website is called “SemRush.com”.  Which according to Google is used by “internet marketers” and identifies sites based on “organic” and “paid traffic” often which identifies such by advertisements; internet ads, and more.   Our/my “organic traffic” is low as you can see — because we do not engage in this kind of traffic. We have never paid or engaged in internet advertising or marketing of any kind.  This does not reflect the viewership of our actual website.

Overall the most accurate tool analysed was SimilarWeb which on average overestimated organic traffic by 1%. It overestimated total visit numbers by 17%, estimating 15.7m visits for the 25 websites, compared to the 13.4m actual. SimilarWeb was the only tool to generally overestimate traffic. Ahrefs was the next most accurate, underestimating total traffic for all sites by 17% (11.1m estimated visits compared to 13.4m actual visits), and on average underestimating traffic by 36% percent. We found SEMrush to be the least accurate tool, underestimating total traffic for all sites by 30% (9.4m estimated visits compare d to 13.4m actual visits), and on average underestimating traffic by 42%.

Let’s lay out an example.  Recently, I had a client claim that this is what he found online in terms of “traffic”.   One phrase sticks out to me on this webpage..

“Organic” can also be defined as traffic that is  brought from people who directly found site on said Google or Bing web search. The problem is that almost 90% of our visitorship comes directly from direct-entry — meaning people are visiting our site directly.  I’ve never actually engaged much in SEO opportunities or “marketing” because the first time I did I nearly lost all of my websites to begin with — when Google came knocking.
