Have you looked at your couch lately and realized that it is looking less than stellar at the moment? It is inevitable that your couch will show wear and tear over time, especially if you have had it for a while. It’s important that you learn how to maintain and clean them so that you can keep using them for many years to come.

1. Look at the couch tag – One of the first things you need to do is to look at the couch tag if it’s available and has not yet torn off. Why? There is a code written there that will help you. Because the material used for couches may differ, such as microfiber or leather, and you will need to use different techniques in order to clean them. Some codes you might see include Code X, which means that the couch can only be vacuumed, while Code O means you can only use cold water in order to clean it.

2. Test the cleaner you are using on a small part of the upholstery first – If you do not see any tag that tells you how to clean the couch, and you want to use a certain cleaner that you have at home or bought from the market, what you can do is test to see if you can really use it on the couch. Choose a small spot that it is not easily seen by people, like the back. This is so that if ever it gets damaged, you can still hide it. Make sure that there is no discoloration or bleeding. Do this test before applying the cleaner to the whole couch.

3. Do not scrub the upholstery – Whenever we see a stain, whether it is on the couch, on the kitchen table or on the carpet, our instinct is to scrub that space clean. While there is no problem with doing this on hard surfaces like marble or stainless steel, it is not good with fabric. By scrubbing the stain, you are just risking for the stain to spread. Instead of scrubbing, blot the stain first in order to prevent it from spreading. It’s also important that you handle the stain as early as possible. If you see some food or a drink spilling, don’t let it dry before you try to remove the stain. The chances of not being able to remove every stain get higher as you let time pass.

4. Use steam cleaning to ensure that it is thoroughly cleaned – it is important to note that even when you use cleaning materials, it still does not completely clean the couch. A surefire way it to do steam cleaning, as this gets rid of microorganisms that are not visible to your eye. While you can get a professional cleaner to that for you, you can also invest in a steam cleaner. You can look at some variants discussed on steamclean.reviews to find out which model you can buy for your household.
