Taylor Swift just got political for the first time: Top Story

She’s been around for much of our modern memory,  but, Taylor Swift has never publicly been political before.  In an Instagram post, the singer took to the web to not only publicly discuss politics for the first time — but also to endorse Democratic candidates in the upcoming major November elections.

Swift apparently doesn’t like the fact that Rep Marsha Blackburn doesn’t endorse the Violence Against Women Act, and, often strongly opposes anything to do with gay rights.    Blackburn refuse to endorse particularly the act, in which, actually expires in December if it isn’t signed.

“In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now,” Swift wrote to her 112 million followers.

I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country,” Swift wrote. “I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love.” The New York Times reports.
