After more than 18 years as the leader of the CDU,  Merkel, has confirmed that she will not seek re-election as party leader at the end of her parliamentary term.  Reports indicate that while she has announced she is stepping down, she, will remain Chancellor until the end of her term in 2021 — effectively making her the de-facto leader of Europe until that time.

Merkel has long faced opposition in her increasingly violative position.     In recent weeks,  many have questioned Merkel ‘s further ability to lead Germany and beyond.

Within the CDU, we’ve already confirmed that many are gunning to ignite the next race for Chancellor already.
