Meet Aaron Carr, landlords’ worst nightmare come to life

In New York — landlords are all but able to tell the truth about their complexes.    With lax enforcement by officials,  landlords, have long gotten away with some of the most scandalous acts in any one singular rental landscape.    In New York City alone, the struggle to find affordable housing, is indeed a growing problem.

That’s where Aaron Carr, 30, and his initiative comes into play.   For starters,  when landlords want renovate their properties (presumably to be able to charge more) they’re actually supposed to legally alert the Department of Buildings and such with the city.  But, today, a new report from Carr and his initiative is expected — and in it  is the exact opposite at the hands of landlords.

It’s interesting that the city actually forcefully denies the report and the main point of the report.  While the report hasn’t formally been released yet, the New York times got a peek, and the outcome was pretty grim.   The city, per 10,000 applications within the Department of Buildings,  almost exclusively didn’t check up on landlords who didn’t confirm to the city that renovations and what not had been completed and or done in the first place.

The city, per the Times,   claimed in a statement that “Just because a landlord “accidentally” checks the wrong box on a form doesn’t necessarily mean they’re breaking the law”.  Meanwhile,   in response to the report from Carr and his company, the city is expected to hire at least 70 more inspectors  to inspect buildings.

It’s also worth noting that H.R.I (Carr’s initiative)  has sued literally every possible landlord in New York in the name of protecting tenants in a city often abused by the rich and powerful.    Among those famously sued in  various lawsuits, ehum,  Kushner & Company (think: Jared Kushner guys).
