The name Cambridge Analytica might sound familiar, but then, it might not. But to those who have seen odd personality quizzes over the past year or so,  might, want to pay attention to what you’re about to read. Federal investigators have demanded that Cambridge Analytica turn over company data and documents, after, it was revealed that the company partook in illegal activities to harvest voter information for the Trump campaign.

Yes, you read that right.   This is where it gets interesting. Facebook reportedly suspended the group in 2015, however,  it is believed they still have vast swathes of information in their possession.Cambridge Analytica (which is believed to be owned by Robert  & Rebekah Mercer)  harvested data for the Trump campaign beginning in 2014.   In it, they managed to  get more than 300,000 people to agree to take personality quizzes (like the quirky ones that often pop up about soul mates, etc).  Of those quizzes, they were “intentionally and maliciously”  created to create psychological profiles of Facebook users and voters.

And in return, ehum, the data was then returned to the Trump campaign so that  specific political ads could be created targeting each group of users.  They reportedly collected data on users activity; scooped up data on all of their friends (and literally all of them), family members, and more.  As a result, the Mueller investigation is now honing in on how they managed to harvest the data, and, why such was never revealed before by the Trump campaign.

Furthermore,   officials say that Cambridge Analytica is under investigation for violating federal election laws in favor of Trump.
