It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, a nightmare, that seems all too horrific for it to be part of real life. But in December 2003, Kent Whitaker found himself in the midst of that possible nightmare — his entire family minus a single son had been slaughtered in a terrifying triple homicide.
Now, this is where it gets interesting. Shortly after the homicides in 2003, Kent Whitaker’s only surviving son was arrested and eventually charged with a crime Whitaker never thought he’d commit. Turns out, Thomas “Bart” Whitaker actually compiled the idea to kill his family with his two friends.
It took Mr. Whitaker a good six months to finally discover that his own son had apparently masterminded their murders per the Washington Post. The Washington Post chronicled much of what happened in the hours after the attack.
Whitaker had never seen it coming.
Bart’s father, Mr. Whitaker, argues that because he is now 38-years-old and is about to get his masters degree.. that his sentence should be commuted to life in prison.
