The top story of the weekend is here. According to reports, the Academy of Arts and Television has decided to reportedly boot Harvey Weinstein over his career ending sex-scandal that has left The Weinsten Company reeling. According to a statement from the Academy, this “may serve as a message” that “this type of behavior will not be tolerated”.
The full statement reads We this “not simply to separate ourselves from someone who does not merit the respect of his colleagues but also to send a message that the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexually predatory behavior and workplace harassment in our industry is over.”
The Academy’s move is nearly unprecedented and unheard of. They’ve only ever indefinitely expelled one other person, such, being a character in 2014 who voted improperly. Meanwhile, others are calling for the same kind of treatment for Bill Cosby and Roman Polanski.
