It appears jobs in the White House come as a family affair these days. According to reports, Jared Kushner is “following all federal ethics laws” to divest his interests and enter the West Wing as a member of Trump ‘s top White House team. Kushner, is the latest in a long line of Trump business allies and family members to gain access to the White House.
There are bigger hurdles Kushner would have to take to actually get the job though. A federal anti-nepotism law prevents the President or his cabinet from actually hauling in any kind of relatives to top positions. However, Kushner’s lawyers argue that doesn’t apply to Kushner’s situation because “the nepotism law only applies to cabinet positions”.
“Mr. Kushner is committed to complying with federal ethics laws and we have been consulting with the Office of Government Ethics regarding the steps he would take,” the lawyer says. “Although plans are not finalized, Mr. Kushner would resign from his position at Kushner Companies and divest substantial assets in accordance with federal guidelines.”
