Is Free Speech really a thing in America? That’s the million dollar question this week after dozens across America were arrested in sweeping actions to protect the “good name” of police. According to reports, specifically the Intercept, people from Connetcticut to Michigan, were arrested after either blatantly calling for the “murder of cops” or posting alarming things on Facebook about harming members of American law enforcement.
“If someone threatens to kill the president, that person would be arrested and prosecuted,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig tells the News. “How is it any different when someone threatens to kill white cops?” A Detroit law professor counters: “Posting that kind of thing on social media is a bad thought, but having a bad thought isn’t necessarily a crime.”
