Today marks what would have been screen legend Marilyn Monroe ‘s 90th birthday. The blonde bombshell, even 90 years later, remains one of the most fixated screen legends ever.   Celebrating her birthday, The  Daily News, examines her political beliefs and the left-leaning Marilyn the world never really knew.

At the pinnacle of her career,  Monroe died at the age of 36 of a barbiturate overdose at her home in Los Angeles. Conspiracy theories have long sought to unravel the mystery of Monroe’s death, with many, painting the involvement of the United States government.

The left-leaning Monroe knew many secrets; was Pro-Castro,  PRO civil rights, and against the use of deadly nukes.  Her stances on social issues and political causes often were capsized by the immense fame Marilyn Monroe experienced in her life.

Monroe’s early life was rattled by poverty; foster homes, and a mother who couldn’t care for her.  Being born in 1926, essentially meant she was born during what would become the Great Depression. Bouncing between homes in California, Monroe, often would find it hard to make it through her own life — presumably — with what would lead up to her perceived suicide at the age of 36.

Monroe spent her life with numerous families, until, she met the Bolanders’ shortly after first entering foster care.   There, she would meet a family she  would learn to like and would later develop unusual political views and social stances on race especially during an era in which saw racism become ripe.  Growing up with a father that worked primarily in an African American neighborhood, Monroe, grew up with social views that opted and sought equality for all social and racial classes regardless of their skin colour.

In 1956 following her marriage to playwright Arthur Miller, Marilyn, became actively and openly political. She joined and became a prominent member of the Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy.  All the while, Monroe secretly kept a home in Roxbury, Conn whereas she would later serve as an alternate delegate in the states Democratic caucus.
