FLORIDA — Despite desperate attempts by Gawker to get their lawsuit thrown out originally filed by Hulk Hogan, a Florida Judge, has ruled that they must pay the former wrestler $140m. The massive amount stems from the 2012 publication of Hogan’s sex tape that appeared on the massively popular news website.
Gawker argues that having to pay such an amount amounts to nothing more than a “travesty” and should have been thrown out of a court. But, a judge disagreed. In a ruling released yesterday, it was cited that Gawker “did wrong” by publishing parts of Hogan’s sex tape, something, that Hogan’s legal team “applauded” as a legal victory.
“Gawker has failed and continues to fail in recognizing their obligation to [Hogan] for their reprehensible behavior and method of doing what they call journalism,” Hogan’s legal team reportedly said during a press conference per ABC News.
