5 of the Most Powerful North Koreans By Influence [Full List]

North Korea is one of the most reclusive countries in the world,  mostly not by choice, but that doesn’t mean that those within the bounds of North Korea don’t hold immense influence.    The Daily News took a deep dive into the country’s political food-chain, and, the results were pretty interesting.

  1.  Kim Jong Un

In 2010-2011,  Kim Jong Un was ushered in as the Supreme leader of North Korea (indefinitely).  After the death of his father;  the assassination of his half-brother,  and then the execution of his uncle, it’s safe to say nothing goes on without the word or demand of Kim himself.   In recent weeks, Kim. appears to have  dialed back his  dramatic rhetoric and approach to others.

2.  Kim Yong-nam

President of the Supreme People’s Assembly,  Yong-nam could be considered the 2nd most powerful North Korean as he has held that position since 1998.    Known primarily as the de-facto head of state (as he holds the title of President). Yong-nam is the third oldest head of state at the age of 90.   He is 2nd only behind Kim Jong Un.

3.  The 225th Allegiance

While the identities of those within remain unknown,  the 225th allegiance, is in fact the state-run intelligence agency.   It is believed that much of the country’s military powers and knowledge of foreign activities come from the secretive agency. In fact,  The Daily News was able to learn that this allegiance is actually called Room 39.   There are also apparently influential heads within  Office 35 and Office 38, all of which, are secretly housed within Pyongyang at the Workers Party building.  Those within reportedly. counterfeit $100 bills;   commit international insurance fraud,  among other major crimes.

4. Kim Kyong-hui and Chang Song-taek

Perhaps the most interesting we discovered, are, indeed these two. Kyong-Hui and Song-Take are two of the most prominent faces behind Kim Jong-Un ‘s militarized grip on power within the hermit Kingdom.  The couple’s (yes, they’re reportedly married per documents we were able to find) influence dates back more than four decades. As of 2018,  they’re believed to be somewhere in their 60’s.

Now, here’s what we know about their enormous influence.  The two have been personal; political, and family mentors  to the dynastic Kim family for nearly half-a-century.   On military matters; the consolidation of Un ‘s own power,  and more have all been issues central to the problem-solving of Kyong-Hui and Song-Taek.
