MYANMAR — Trouble brewing in Asia, as, we’ve learned that Suu Kyi (the woman Prime Minister not to be confused with the President) might just be headed for some serious criminal trouble. Now, this is where it gets interesting.
We do have to inform our readers that, we, have received warnings from the government of Myanmar to not discuss this subject or report on it. As a prominent Muslim oriented newspaper, we, often do get warned by Muslim governments to avoid these topics or else. Our Editor in Chief has ordered this to publication despite the threats. In the upcoming series on the crisis, we, have interviews with multiple influential figures who are trying desperately to stop Suu Kyi in her tracks.
News reports surfaced Saturday night that Suu Kyi may face prosecution due to a group of Australian lawyers, who, privately filed the requested documents to have her charged with crimes against humanity. The documents, although, will face heavy issues because they have to be approved by the Attorney General in order to proceed.
Ron Merkel QC, a Melbourne barrister and former federal court judge, international lawyers Marion Isobel and Raelene Sharp, and Sydney human rights lawyers Alison Battisson and Daniel Taylor all filed the paperwork in Melbourne as the weekend kicked off on Friday. By Saturday, the paperwork had become somewhat shy of a diplomatic crisis.
But, those hopes were shot down. Also over the weekend, Australia’s AG rejected an application to prosecute Suu Kyi, because, she “has diplomatic immunity” despite the fact her country is responsible for the ethnic cleansing of nearly 1,000,000 innocent Muslims in Rohingya.
Myanmar viciously denies the charge, and, did such in a translated statement to The Daily News before issuing a warning from its security forces that we avoid publishing our pending series on the Rohingya crisis. Australia refuted entirely to charge her in any way, because, “foreign heads of state” have full immunity including against “foreign prosecution”.
