3 Horrific Failures At The Hands of Myanmar ‘s Suu Kyi – In Depth

This is part of our series – The Crisis in Myanmar: Suu Kyi ‘s Failure to Lead –  a new series that has already been met with diplomatic warnings from Myanmar. While we are proceeding with a publication, we, are proceeding with caution.   The editor who ordered this series to publication can be contacted at sk [at] bazaar daily [dot] co [dot] [uk].

The backstory

Suu Kyi  for those that don’t know is pretty much the de-facto ruler of Myanmar.    Elected to “State Counselor” (think along the lines of Prime Minister) sometime in the late 1980 ‘s —  Suu Kyi hasn’t always led true to her word and promises.   Our search and analytical team, has, put together a list of 4 horrific crimes and ignorances at the hands of  Myanmar’s own Prime Minister (all of which the government has viciously denied).

  1.    Suu Kyi refuses to grant citizenship to the people of Rohingya

It has long been public knowledge that the people of Rohingya have sought to gain citizenship in the region, before and during the crisis, but that won’t happen.   Inter-governmental memos obtained by The Daily News show that since at least 2013, people of the Rohingya area, have attempted thousands of times to apply for citizenship.  But instead,   they have only been given “residential ID cards”  in lieu of citizenship.   Mostly, perhaps, because Suu Kyi “feels that they shouldn’t be granted citizenship”  and “this will have to do”.

2. At the hands of Suu Kyi…

Some 10,000  innocent people of the Rohingya area were killed when  Myanmar’s military and local extremists first stormed villages on 25 August last year.    Since the beginning of the insurgency, Suu Kyi, has largely been silent. In fact, there is no formal statement from her currently on record anywhere in the world.  Further in fact, Suu Kyi has only ever praised the military’s actions, rather, than attempt to intervene for the good of anybody but herself.

3. It is believed…

That Suu Kyi ‘s own view on Muslims (at least certain kinds of Muslims) do not align with those within the Rohingya village. Insiders within Kyi’s government claim this is at least partially the reason why she has failed to act within the Rohingya region.   Government figures close to Suu Kyi who spoke on the condition of guaranteed anonymity, say, that “It doesn’t really bother her that people are dying in that particular area.  These are the same people she wouldn’t protect by giving citizenship, so why would she bother to intervene and save them?”.
