The elaborate lie that Theranos built itself on, perhaps, is the same lie in which brought that ship crashing down. This is where it gets interesting. Earlier this week, we were among the first to report that the SEC charged Holmes with massive fraud and barred her from performing duties as a director of any publicly traded company.
Now there are some new twists.
As we first reported, along with multiple other outlets, she must pay $500,000 in fines; lose her company, and iwll not be able to serve again as she did for at least a decade. The move sort of drew criticism from all sides of the spectrum, considering, the depth in which her lies actually went. Holmes knowingly deceived investors; actual patients, but most of all, patients. Innocent patients who were hoping for the “revolutionary” blood testing machinery in which she promised, but, ultimately fabricated so that she could gain billions of dollars (literally).
What some patients are saying.
We took to the streets and Twitter, to, discuss Holmes and her fall from grace. Users and real people, some who even confided in her, were outraged at the idea she essentially gets to walk away from her crimes. “It’s like they really don’t care that she literally deceived the American public about what she could do, and now, there’s little to no accountability,” says one elderly woman who was watching Holmes mediocre rise to the top from the beginning.
Perhaps the most shocking of Holmes’ elabrate lie, is, that she managed to deceive Walgreens so easily. Walgreens xec0s were so easily deceived by the claim she was using Theranos’ owned machines — that nobody bothered to look twice.
Of course…
Hollywood has come knocking. Jennifer Lawrence is set to play Holmes’ in the upcoming movie about her history making fall from grace. What that movie will be called, perhaps, remains unknown.
