Red Sparrow is all the rage this weekend, but, MoviePass goers won’t actually be able to use that shiny  red card to see the much discussed movie.    According to Vulture,  MoviePass has been having issues as of late — because — it has slightly been caught  lying about its statistics and revenue.

Vulture gleefully pointed out that MoviePass  removed Red Sparrow in certain markets from its lineup of offerings, because,   some theaters showing the film don’t actually support the use of the MP card.   After the news surfaced online, Movie Pass, addressed the speculation that they intentionally removed the film for their own bargaining power.

“We occasionally remove some films from our ticketing inventory in some markets for a limited time, similar to how we organically promote films in certain markets to better understand member behavior,” MoviePass told Slashfilm in a statement. “As part of this ongoing testing, we have stepped up our efforts to remind members to always double-check the MoviePass app to confirm that their preferred showtimes and theaters are available for the movie they are planning to see before they leave for the theater.”

Notably, in January, the company pulled support itself (not at the hands of the theaters)   for a small number of AMC theaters.  The long time dispute between AMC and Movie Pass has gone on for some time, because,  certain theaters do not want to share a portion of sales with MP and its company affiliates.
