It’s a newsrooms worst night, when, anonymous phone calls come in threatening their reporters and their lives. For CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta, that nightmare, became reality on 9 January. According to federal documents, 19-year-old Brandon Griesemer began harassing CNN in phone calls on that day. In his first call, he threatened a phone operator after telling them they were “Fake News”. Moments later, he called back from another phone, citing that he “was going to gun them all down”.
“I am on my way right now to gun the f—ing CNN cast down. … I am coming to kill you.” reads one of the documents of what he apparently said. All together, there were about 22 phone calls. FBI Agents say that he had also called a local mosque in Ann Arbor in September, issuing, similar threats to them.
We take any threats to CNN employees or workplaces, around the world, extremely seriously,” CNN said in a statement. “We have been in touch with local and federal law enforcement throughout, and have taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety of our people.”
