MELBOURNE — Interesting news in Australia this week, as, The Daily News has confirmed via court documents that a 76-year-old top ranking Vatican official is headed to court. According to documents, Cardinal George Pell, the third highest ranking official in the Vatican, has been accused and charged with more than a dozen and a half historical sex offenses.
Documents show that Pell ‘s accusations stem from numerous young male accusers, some, who say they were raped or sexually assaulted by Pell when they were as young as 7. Documents further note that some of the victims claimed that Pell “intimidated them with his position within the Vatican, and, therefore often left his victims feeling powerless” claims a document.
Pell, who is currently not in Melbourne, has now been ordered to go on trial on 18 July. Pell’s lawyers claim he will “do his best to return to Melbourne” and “vigorously fight the charges”.
