A massive denial of service attack hit the internet today

And it took out some of the worlds most visited websites. According to FBI officials who were briefed on the matter internet service provider Dyn reportedly got hit this morning. The hit came in the form of a very strong DDoS Attack that is now being pummeled against the company for a third time.

The officials that spoke to The Daily News confirmed that the attacks took place in the early hours of the morning and as of this writing an alleged third attack is underway. Officials are not yet quite sure who or what may be behind the attack.

Gizmodo rounded up most of the troubled websites and the bleak future that sits ahead for the web.
