For first time ever, Miss America will have openly gay contestant

Miss America is getting a shake-up, a shake-up so big, that this one is going down in the history books.  Missouri, is home of Erin O’Flaherty, 23, who is now the first openly gay Miss America winner and contestant to represent the state in the upcoming pageant later this year.

Per the AP, and a phone interview from Mexico,  O’Flaherty revealed some interesting facts about herself ahead of her historic win from Miss America.

I’m on cloud nine really just to be Miss Missouri,” she said. “I don’t know that I intended to be the first, but I am. So I’m very excited about it.”
