According to USA TODAY — it appears the state of Myanmar has enacted a new controversial law that has already upset some. The law, a 2-child-limit for Muslim families in Myanmar’s Rahkine state (at least according to authorities) is a bid to quash sectarian tensions between Myanmar and outlying Muslim countries like Bangladesh.
The law was reportedly enacted a week ago following a government meeting discussing the heavy overpopulation in the area.
“The population growth of Rohingya Muslims is 10 times higher than that of the Rakhine (Buddhists),” Win Myaing said. “Overpopulation is one of the causes of tension.”
